My commitment to the Children's Miracle Network began long before the wonderful partnership between CMN and the Miss America Organization. I have two very special friends that have been helped with CMN.

One of them is a true miracle baby, "MACY." - You would find it hard to believe that this energetic spit fire once held on to her life with a thin thread. Macy was born at 24 weeks. Her hand was the size of my fingernail. Her head was no bigger than a peach. Thanks to Roanoke's neonatal facility that CMN supports, Macy is able to enjoy the fun of Kindergarten. Her family and ours have been friends for a very long time. Her mom was one of the first people I knew that encouraged me to enter my first local competition. My dad was one of the first non-family members to greet Macy when she arrived home from the neomatal center. Macy weighted 1 lb 3 oz when shew as born. Her family was told she had only a 50% chance of survival. While in the neonatal center she had to have heart surgery, ROP eye surgery and 2 hernia operations. Children's Miracle Network donated all of the isolates as well as most of the equipment used in the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit that allows a baby like Macy who was born prematurely to survive.
